Former federal prosecutor Mark Lesko defeated Councilman Tim Mazzei in the special election for Brookhaven Town Supervisor held on Tuesday, March 31, 2009. According to unofficial results from the Suffolk Board of Elections, Mr. Lesko received 55 percent of the votes cast, with a total of 22,345, to Mr. Mazzei’s 18,195. Mr. Lesko, a Democrat, is expected to take office– the first elected one in his career – in about ten days. Mr. Mazzei, a Republican, retains his seat on the Town Council, where his party will still hold a 4-3 majority.
