Middle Island Civic Association Meeting Notice
Longwood Public Library, 800 MCR, MI, NY
THURSDAY, August 20th, 2026 at 7:00 PM
PSEGLI Consumer Advocate Trish Rivers will provide an overview of her office and explain programs available to help consumers cut costs, avoid service distributions and pay bills more easily.
LPL Local History Librarian Melanie Cardone-Leathers will present Longwood and the American Revolution as part of our America 250 Celebration. Learn about the Patriots who lived in our area and the roles they played in our road to Independence. It was along eight-year occupation after the Battle of Long Island was lost!
At some time in the near future, we hope that Representatives from Breslin Realty will formally present their plans for “The Meadows at Artist Lake,” a mixed-use development at the long-blighted former Kmart parcel on the north-side of Middle Country Road across from Artist Lake. Unfortunately they had to cancel their July presentation at the last minute.
Because the NYS Pine Barrens Commission has determined this to be a Development of Regional Significance, we will probably schedule a Special Meeting in the larger Community Room at Longwood Public Library for this important discussion. The public is welcome to learn, question, suggest and comment, respectfully, of course. Please read the history of development ideas for this location at http://s453969799.onlinehome.us/mica/?page_id=4841
Please consider bringing a monetary or food-specific donation for Blessings in a Backpack: chunk tuna fish in water, Belvita breakfast biscuits, Progresso soup, Hormel chili, canned ravioli, Quaker oatmeal packets, small canned fruit, small pretzel bags. Thanks!
