Middle Island Civic Association Meeting Notice

THURSDAY, March 21st, 2024 at 7:00 PM – at LPL!

Representatives from PSEGLI and Community Power will provide updates and answer member questions about billing, new peak demand pricing and more.

The proposed expansion at Surge Rehabilitation & Nursing Home at 49 Oakcrest Ave will be presented by attorney Keith Brown et al.  The owners want to add a one-story 3,350 square foot building and reconfigure the parking areas.  The new building will NOT generate any additional patient beds. Inadequate parking is a major concern for all there: patients, visitors, employees and neighbors.

Per the MICA Bylaws, the Nominating Committee, formed at our February meeting,  may report at this meeting, in advance of the April annual election of officers.

We may also get updates from:

Julie Vitrano, property manager for 200-232 MCR:  Dollar General signs are in half the windows of the strip mall there.

The owners of Lola’s Southern Cuisine; Tiffany and Darrell Darwood are working to  open Lola’s 2.0 at the former Cow Palace location later this year.

Get updates on SCPD, LPL, local development projects and more.  Enjoy refreshments.  Bring your $10 Annual Dues, a Neighbor, and  chunk tuna fish in water/Hormel chili/Progresso soup for Blessings in a Backpack. Thanks!

During early Covid restrictions, MICA met virtually each month from July 2020 thru April 2021 via Zoom.  We averaged between 20-25 participants and held our annual Meet the Candidates Night in October , our Farewell to Senator Ken LaValle in December, and our Election of Officers in April.  In May 2021, we returned to in person meetings, outside at the MIFD HQ park/picnic area. MICA met there until September. Many thanks to our wonderful hosts at MIFD!

We have been meeting monthly indoors at Longwood Public Library since October 2021.

Please consider bringing food-specific donations for Blessings in a Backpack: chunk tuna fish in water, Kraft mac & cheese, Belvita breakfast biscuits, Progresso soup, Hormel chili, canned ravioli, Quaker oatmeal packets, small canned fruit, small pretzel bags. Thanks!

At our December 2018 meeting, we voted to make Blessings in a Backpack the recipient of our monthly food drives
