MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 17, 2011 MICA MEETING – LONGWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY – 7:00 P.M.

I.  Meeting was called to order by President Tom Talbot at 7:00 p.m. and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
II.  Treasurer’s Report – Savings, $3,202.49 and checking $183.09
III Minutes of the January 20, 2011 meeting were read and approved as written.

IV. Presentation:  Louis J. Maroccia, Brookhaven Town Receiver of Taxes spoke.  Booklets were distributed with information pertaining to taxes.  You may soon be able to view your tax bills/receipts on line.  This will save money the town money allotted for postage etc. Any questions posted online to Mr. Marcoccia’s office will respond within 24 hours.  This website is www.brookhaven.org.  Appropriate security level will be adhered to with regard to using the website.

V. President’s Report/Unfinished Business:

Town clean up preparation to be held on April 16, 2011.

The 6th district election will be held on March 29, 2011.

Roanoke Sand and Gravel – Asking for permit revision.  MICA visited site and has no reason for objection.

Supervisor Mark Lesko will be at Longwood Library February 21, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. regarding ABCO.

Bone Marrow Drive Sat. February 19th at Middle Island Fire Dept. from 10-4.  Age restrictions are from age 18-55.

Lobby Day in Albany – President Tom Talbot spoke on “Smart Growth Projects.”

Carmans River Project – Sat. February 19, 2011 at 12:00 – Questions to be addressed.  Check website.

Dues were due in January 2011.  Please see Membership Secretary Margaret Malloy.

Nominating Forms are available for members in good standing.

III.  Treasurer’s Report – Savings – $3,202.49 – Checking – $103.09 – As of December 31, 2010.

IV. President’s Report/Unfinished Business:

Representative from Sand Pebbles Builders spoke regarding process for Longwood Library expansion.  Meeting at Longwood library on January 27, 2011 to begin outreach to community, sustainability of library, and also “greening” of library.

Meeting at Town Hall January 25, 2011 at 4:45 – Mark Lesko will present a “State of Town Message.”  All are invited

V. Presentation: Two representatives from the Hamlet Organic Gardens spoke and had a slide presentation.  The Hamlet Organic Gardens is a community based not for profit organic farm located in Brookhaven Hamlet.  Anyone interested and would like information, please use website.
