Reminder: No June MICA Meeting

As voted upon at our May meeting, there will be no Middle Island Civic Association meeting on Thursday, June 15th. Instead we will be attending the Yaphank Historical Society’s presentation on “The Out of Towners”, three prominent men who claimed to be Yaphank residents but really lived in Middle Island: Mr. Prosser, Mr. Ashton, and Judge Bartlett. This meeting starts at 7:30pm at the Swezey Avey House on Rt 21 in Yaphank. Also that night, the Suffolk County Police Department Seventh Precinct will be holding its monthly community meeting at 7pm at their HQ building on the west side of William Floyd Parkway. Two great opportunities to learn about the past or present.

Our next MICA Meeting will be Thursday, July 20th at 7pm at the Longwood Public Library. Suffolk County Police Commissioner Tim Sini will be our featured speaker. Commissioner Sini will update us on the opioid epidemic and efforts to combat the MS 13 gang problem. Attorney Steve Losquadro will also  present plans by Coram Land, LLC, to build a gas station on the south east corner of Wilson Ave and Rt 25.
