Middle Island – The Longwood Alliance, Middle Island Civic Association (MICA) and others hosted the 2016 Longwood Memorial Day Remembrance on Monday morning.

Braving the weather, attendees packed the grandstand in Bartlett Pond Park as local officials, veterans, fire department members and Scouts participated in the solemn remembrance of those who lost their lives serving our nation.

Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker, New York State Assemblyman Dean Murray, New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle and Brookhaven Town Councilman Michael Loguercio joined MICA President Gail Lynch-Bailey who served as the hostess of morning’s ceremony.

A highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of over 100 newly-engraved names on the Vietnam War Memorial.

Bartlett Pond Park serves as a solid testament to the abilities of local civic organizations and their members to keep their community looking its best. The park boasts numerous war memorials, a playground and a community garden.

It is located on the south side of Route 25 in Middle Island, just west of the Spring Lake Golf Course.
