Dec 17th MICA Meeting Reminder

Middle Island Civic Association Meeting Notice

Thursday, December 17th, 2015 at 7:00PM

Our next MICA meeting will be held on Thursday, December 17th, 2015 in the first floor Clemens Room of our beautiful LONGWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY at 800 Middle Country Road at 7:00PM.

We will have a presentation from the LI Progressive Coalition about their “PowerUp Communities” initiative, which provides free home energy audits. PowerUp Communities is state-funded energy efficiency program and project of the non-profit Long Island Progressive Coalition. PowerUp connects homeowners, government funds and contractors to help homeowners pay for energy-saying home improvements. Some of these improvements include sealing drafts, adding insulation or replacing boilers and water heaters. Homeowners who completed the program saved as much $2,500 per year on energy costs. While homeowners save money and increase their comfort, they are also eligible to get a $200 referral award to give to their local non-profit community groups and churches.

We will also have our “Wrap Party” wherein we prepare gifts for our outreach program and enjoy holiday refreshments. This year MICA is teaming with Community Housing Innovations to give needed items for 20 men in two emergency shelters here in Middle Island. We have committed to providing new hats, gloves and toiletry sets to these fellows for the holidays. Thus far, thanks to your overwhelming generosity, we have the 20 toiletry sets as well as 15  hats and glove sets. Please bring a new men’s hat/glove set if you can, and a goody to share with MICA members as we wrap these gifts.

Remember to bring non-perishable goods for donation to local agencies. Thanks.
