This year the Middle Island Civic Association “adopted” the Ridge Rest Home for its Holiday Outreach. Members purchased and donated funds for much needed basic clothing items, such as socks, underwear and warm shirts, and MICA also donated 500 personal-sized soap bars and 300 disposable razors. Members also made individual toiletry gift bags. We gathered on December 18th for our annual “Wrap” Party, at which all donated items were festively prepared. First Vice President Margaret Malloy, MICA’s Outreach Coordinator, delivered the gifts the next day to a very appreciative Ridge Rest Home staff for distribution to the more than fifty residents. Many thanks to our generous MICA members and expert wrappers, as well as to Margaret for her handling of this event.

We, the Middle Island Civic Association, believe the strength of a democratic society lies in the citizens’ ability and inclination to participate in the act of governing. We further believe that in unity there is strength, and that the efforts of many may achieve results that cannot be achieved by the individual. We, therefore, encourage the people of Middle Island to participate in the process of government. Through our organization we encourage our representatives to be responsive to the needs of their constituents, and to preserve, protect, and foster the environmental, economic, historical, educational, and cultural amenities of Middle Island.
