MIDDLE ISLAND CIVIC ASSOCIATION

- The regular meeting of the Middle Island Civic Association will be held on Thursday, January 16th in the Middle Island Fire Department headquarters on Arnold Drive beginning at 7:00pm.
- The Long Island Power Authority has selected the Caithness proposal for a new, clean 750 megawatt natural; gas fueled power plant in Yaphank as the finalist in its RFP process. This plant would be scheduled for commercial operation by May of 2018. The Town of Brookhaven has initiated the environmental review process for this project that would be situated on an 80 acre site to the north of Caithness’ existing unit, and has prepared a draft environmental impact statement for public comment. After a full review by the Town of Brookhaven, a contract between LIPA and Caithness would be entered for the project. A spokesperson for Caithness will present operating characteristics of the proposed facility.
