Scouts & Civics Pay Tribute to the Fallen on Memorial Day

Boy Scout Troop 433 of Middle Island formed a color guard of fourteen flags for this year’s Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony at Bartlett Pond Park.  The scouts presented the colors and then posted them on either side of the  six granite war memorials bearing the names of  Longwood’s service people from the Revolution through Vietnam.  A crowd of about 100 attended the ceremony, which was organized by The Longwood Alliance and the Middle Island Civic Association.  They heard the story of Ridge resident Jeffrey L. Wiener, who was killed in action in Iraq in 2005.   Jeff’s name  and more than 200 others’ will soon be engraved on the newest Longwood War Memorial,  honoring all those who served in The Global War on Terror. A  new monument dedication ceremony will take place at Bartlett Pond Park on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.
