Suffolk’s Department of Civil Service and Human Resources administers competitive examinations for job titles in over 241 jurisdictions including the county, its 10 towns and its multitude of villages and school districts, along with fire, water and library special districts which collectively employ more than 40,000 individuals.  For information on job opportunities, check out the Civil Service webpage at www.suffolkcountyny.gov, click on Government and go to Civil Service.

The web page includes the current list of exams and the following functions (all of the material is for informational purposes only).

CURRENT ELIGIBLE LISTS BY TITLE – This feature enables the user to view all current eligible lists and the date the lists were established.

JOB TITLE SEARCH – this feature enables the user to search for job titles by category, title or specification number and it provides access to the complete list of civil service titles.  From each selection you can also access the job specification.

CANDIDATE SEARCH – This feature enables the user to see what eligible lists he/she is on.  In order to access this information you enter your last name and your social security number.

CURRENT LIST OF EXAMS – You may apply for all examinations ON-LINE.  This service offers an alternative to obtaining, filling out and mailing in the traditional application forms.  You must have a credit card (VISA or MasterCard) to apply using the Internet application.  Your credit card account will be charged the total of all application fees, as well as an added processing fee of $1.95, which are both non-refundable.  For complete details, visit the department’s web page www.suffolkcountyny.gov, civil service.

CIVIL SERVICE EXAM INFORMATION NOW AVAILABLE VIA INTERNET…with the click of a mouse, residents and agencies can now sign up to receive an email notification regarding the latest information on upcoming civil service exams.  The e-Update system is easy to navigate.  To sign up for the e-updates, go to www.suffolkcountyny.gov, click on How Do I, click on Subscribe to eUpdate Newsletters!  Once there fill in the required information.
