MINUTES OF THE JULY 15, 2010 MICA MEETING – Longwood Public Library
Officers in Attendance: President Tom Talbot, Second Vice President Betsey Martinez, Treasurer Larry Mazza, Recording/Corresponding Secretary Barbara Shirreffs, Membership Secretary, Margaret Malloy – Sign In Sheet – As attached
I. Meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
II. Minutes of the June 17, 2010 meeting were read and approved as written.
III. Treasurer’s Report: $3,106.04, $378.42 in checking
IV. President’s Report/Unfinished Business:
Wading River Hollow Road at Route 25 Property Addressed – Multi-family rentals/condos – stop order issued – proper permits were not issued from the town
Pet Cemetery – Crematorium burned – Owner hopes to expedite re-building
Island Squire – Debris dumped – litigation underway – Property in foreclosure – Town cannot locate owners
Proposal for Sign at library – presented to library board
Dedications at Bartlett Park on June 17, 2010 – Beautiful memorials put in place – dedicated to Veterans of all Wars
Ben’s Paints – Architect met with MICA board members to present plans for future building – Letter of support from MICA sent to Planning Board
Water damage – MI residents at last month’s meeting – discussed flooding in their homes – still nothing resolved
Vacant land opposite Island Squire – Contractor’s vehicles (per nearby residents) seen dumping late at night
V. Presentation: Redevelopment of K-Mart Property – Third meeting re: site – Concept is to build retail stores facing Route 25 – Ball fields proposed, Leed Elements under consideration (Environmental friendly), storm water to be used for rain gardens, walkable experience for people, zoning to be put in place. LYSA (Longwood Youth Sports Association), in attendance — questions arose as to field sizes of proposed ball parks.
