The EPA recently identified over 100 different pharmaceutical and other medical products in public drinking water across the United States. The ability to dispose of drugs in a safe manner is especially important on Long Island, where unused medications have the potential to seep into the surrounding ocean, bays, estuaries, and also the ground, contaminating our drinking water. This emerging issue is a threat to public health, wildlife, and our natural environment. Properly storing and processing these medicines is always a better option than landfilling them or flushing them down the toilet.
