Middle Island Civic Association Meeting Notice

THURSDAY, May 16th, 2024 at 7:00 PM – at LPL!

Learn about a proposal for 220 senior (55+) apartments at the old Lustgarten parcel, on the south side of MCR across from Woodville Rd.  The USA Gas station would be removed and a  traffic light installed for the only entrance into the complex.  There would be a fire access gate at Cullen Lane (but not at Nottingham) which would be restricted for emergency service vehicles only and would be covenanted as such. MICA has submitted a list of more than 20 questions to be answered by the property owners, the Giaquinto Family of Deer Park, and their builder/rep Mike Kelly. Neighbors are invited to attend and ask questions of their own.

Sign up to participate in the Great Brookhaven Clean Up and Longwood Day –both events are on Sat, May 18th.

Get updates on SCPD, LPL, local development projects and more.  Enjoy refreshments.  Bring your $10 Annual Dues, a Neighbor, and  chunk tuna fish in water/Hormel chili/Progresso soup for Blessings in a Backpack. Thanks!

Please Note:  scheduled speakers and presenters are subject to change and/or cancellation, often without much notice, and sometimes at the very last minute. MICA will attempt to keep this site as up-to-date as possible as well as notify its members in good standing via e-mail, the website and social media.

During early Covid restrictions, MICA met virtually each month from July 2020 thru April 2021 via Zoom.  We averaged between 20-25 participants and held our annual Meet the Candidates Night in October , our Farewell to Senator Ken LaValle in December, and our Election of Officers in April.  In May 2021, we returned to in person meetings, outside at the MIFD HQ park/picnic area. MICA met there until September. Many thanks to our wonderful hosts at MIFD!

We have been meeting monthly indoors at Longwood Public Library since October 2021.

Please consider bringing food-specific donations for Blessings in a Backpack: chunk tuna fish in water, Kraft mac & cheese, Belvita breakfast biscuits, Progresso soup, Hormel chili, canned ravioli, Quaker oatmeal packets, small canned fruit, small pretzel bags. Thanks!

At our December 2018 meeting, we voted to make Blessings in a Backpack the recipient of our monthly food drives
