There is a huge new graffiti tag across the front of the old Island Squire restaurant that irks us to no end. We won’t post a photo of it because that’s what these taggers want – recognition. But we have forwarded photos to the TOB and the 6th Precinct. Pleas to demolish the long vacant, once famous eatery have not fallen on deaf ears. Apparently there’s been a bureaucratic snafu involving an incorrect name of the corporation that’s in default on the mortgage. This has stalled the bankruptcy court from transferring ownership to the mortgage holder- who has told the TOB he intends to demolish the eyesore once he has lawful title to it. MICA has asked the TOB for the contact info of the mortgage holder in order to offer assistance in removing this blighted bookend of the Middle Island community.

We, the Middle Island Civic Association, believe the strength of a democratic society lies in the citizens’ ability and inclination to participate in the act of governing. Through our organization we encourage our representatives to be responsive to the needs of their constituents, and to preserve, protect, and foster the environmental, economic, historical, educational, and cultural amenities of Middle Island.
