Mr. Smith was Brookhaven Town Supervisor from 1829 to 1834 and also served for a time as Suffolk County Treasurer and a member of the New York State Legislature. The home was passed down through the Smith family over many generations, and in 1973 the manor house and 35 acres of land was donated to the Town of Brookhaven by developers who had purchased the property.
