Brookhaven coastal areas to be evacuated<\/strong><\/div>\n
Brookhaven Town Supervisor Mark Lesko signed an executive order on the evacuations Friday, he said at a news conference with County Executive Steve Levy<\/a>.<\/div>\n

The areas to be evacuated are:<\/p>\n

Blue Point<\/a> south of Montauk<\/a> Highway<\/p>\n

Patchogue<\/a> south of Main Street<\/p>\n

East Patchogue<\/a> south of Main Street east to the intersection<\/p>\n

Bellport<\/a> south of South Country Road<\/p>\n

Brookhaven hamlet south of South Country Road<\/p>\n

Shirley<\/a> south of Golden Gate\/ Neighborhood Road<\/p>\n

Mastic Beach<\/a> Village<\/p>\n

Moriches<\/a> south of Main Street<\/p>\n

Center Moriches<\/a> south of Main Street<\/p>\n

Cedar Beach peninsula in Mount Sinai<\/a><\/p>\n

East Moriches<\/a> south of East Moriches<\/a> Boulevard in the Newport Beach community<\/p>\n

The Brookhaven Animal Shelter is working together with the Suffolk County SPCA to help the beloved pets of evacuees. The Suffolk County Community College Riverhead-Woodland Campus at 121 Speonk-Riverhead Road, Riverhead will be open for residents and their pets at 10 am tomorrow. Anyone that has a pet should bring medical records, food, medications, collars with identification and leashes, small litter boxes for cats as well as carriers\/crates to house their pets and keep them safe.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says public transportation in and around New York City will shut down around noon Saturday in advance of Hurricane Irene. This includes the Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad and Access-a-Ride. The MTA will institute a system-wide shutdown when trains and buses begin their final runs around noon.<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n
