Reading of the minutes from September 20<sup>th<\/sup> meeting were read and approved.<\/p>\n<p>III. Treasurer\u2019s Report-As of September 30<sup>th<\/sup>, 2012\u00a0 Savings:\u00a0 $2,216.36, Interest $0.10<\/p>\n<p>Checking:\u00a0 $466.27<\/p>\n<p>IV.\u00a0 Correspondence-n\/a<\/p>\n<p>V.\u00a0 Reports of Committees &amp; Officers-n\/a<\/p>\n<p>VI.\u00a0 Unfinished Business:<\/p>\n<p>~Bartlett Pond Park: scouts installed brick walkways; western section re-planted with trees and shrubs; trail to be added to; irrigation next week and Community Garden is in planning stages<\/p>\n<p>~Nelin \u201cNo Gas\u201d parcel \u2013 grounds mowed and weeded; next: find out Rite Aid\u2019s true intentions<\/p>\n<p>~Library Bond Passed: 698-394!<\/p>\n<p>~MIFD Open House held last Saturday, at Station 2<\/p>\n<p>~Volunteers still needed: Graffiti removal program, also,\u00a0 BNL CAC alternate<\/p>\n<p>VII. New Business<\/p>\n<p>~ Veterans Day Commemoration: Sunday, Nov 11, 11:00 Bartlett Pond Park.<\/p>\n<p>~ The First Long Island Natural History Conference is Friday, Nov. 16 &amp; 17 at BNL<\/p>\n<p>~ Exit 66 LIE service Road litter clean up-Tom will contact Town, MICA wants to put up no littering sign.<\/p>\n<p>~ MICA Food Collection will be at King Kullen in Middle Island on Saturday, Dec. 1<sup>st<\/sup> from 10-2.\u00a0 Please sign up to help us collect food donations.\u00a0 Donations will be distributed to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">local food pantries<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>~ Adopt a Family-Margaret will discuss info with Barbara Royce from the soup kitchen.\u00a0 We are accepting donations of toiletries, gift cards, etc.<\/p>\n<p>~ Consider MICA to \u201cAdopt-A-Highway\u201d \u2013 wanted: a safe location needing litter removed<\/p>\n<p>~ Please \u201cLike\u201d MICA on Facebook,<\/p>\n<p>~Longwood Public library has link to MICA on their website<\/p>\n<p>VIII. ~Guest Speakers\/Meet the Candidates: Dean Murray, Edward Hennessey, Ken La Valle, and Bridget Fleming all came to introduce themselves and to campaign for the upcoming election.<\/p>\n<p>IX.\u00a0 Adjournment at 9:15<\/p>\n<p>~ Next Meeting: November 15, 2012 &#8211; invited guest is Scott Martella, Suffolk County Rep for Gov. Reading of the minutes from the May 17, 2012 meeting were read and approved.<\/p>\n<p>III. Treasurer\u2019s Report- As of August 31, 2012, Savings-$2,216.36, Checking-$496.90<\/p>\n<p>IV. Correspondence-n\/a<\/p>\n<p>V. Reports of Committees and Officers<\/p>\n<p>VI. Unfinished Business:<\/p>\n<p>* \u00a0June 16<sup>th<\/sup> unveiled newest monument \u201cGlobal War on Terror\u201d at Bartlett Pond Park\u00a0 It was a beautiful day; Fire Depts and other groups helped finance the ceremony.\u00a0 Mrs Eagle, widow of Survivor of Pearl Harbor, and Mrs. Weiner who lost her husband in Iraq, unveiled the new stone.\u00a0 Approx. 100 of the more than 200 on the wall were recognized in person.\u00a0 All received a hat, metal, biography of their own story, and a picture by the monument.\u00a0 Boy scouts are working on an intersecting walk way by Boy Scouts.\u00a0 Waiting for funding from Keperts office for plants, irrigation, etc.\u00a0 Veterans Day will be next event.\u00a0 Everyone is very proud of the accomplishments, but we still have a long way to go.<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0 Sandy Hills-Multifamily residential use proposed in 2002 located on Route 21 &amp;25 behind \u201cno gas gas station\u201d.\u00a0 Planning board in August went for final approval of site plan.\u00a0 Last steps will include architectural phase.\u00a0 Every indication it has passed.\u00a0 Finances being stretched by Mr. Webber<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0 Four Eagle Scouts were presented with awards. MICA attended all four ceremonies.<\/p>\n<p>* \u00a0Coram old UA property (old movie theater disaster area)\u00a0 is moving forward.\u00a0 Developer \u00a0allowed the Civic Association to name the project.\u00a0 They decided on \u201cWin Coram Commons\u201d.\u00a0 Plan includes both residential and commercial properties with walkable commons.\u00a0 Plannng Bd very supportive.<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0 Kmart plaza to be renamed \u201cArtist Lake Plaza\u201d.\u00a0 There is an extension to develop the property.\u00a0 Owner will not develop until they can secure 2 anchor stores, will also promote community with common area, etc.<\/p>\n<p>*Country Fair at Longwood Estates.\u00a0 Very successful, first day weather was a little rough, but Sunday was beautiful. MICA &amp; the library had tables, reenactments of wars, archeological dig for kids, etc.<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0 \u201dNo Gas, Gas Station\u201d : asking everyone to take Rite Aid contact sheet to all and complain about the overgrown property.<\/p>\n<p>VII. New Business<\/p>\n<p>* \u00a0Redistricting:\u00a0 Council 4 gains some in Longwood, Loses those in Farmingville and Mastic.\u00a0 Town has until December 15<sup>th<\/sup> to approve redistricting.\u00a0 Middle Island stays the same.<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0 Birchwood Association has invited everyone to their meeting on September 27, 2012 at their clubhouse.<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0 Lesko resigns, Cathy Walsh holding position temporarily.\u00a0 Special election for TOB Supervisor on 11\/6,\u00a0 ABCO meet-the-Candidates (Ed Romaine and Brian Beedenbender) here on Mon, Oct. 15 at 7:30pm<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0 MIFD Halfway to St. Pat\u2019s Day Celebration, Sat. 9\/22, 6-11pm<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0 Pine Barrens Research Forum @ BNL- Oct 4 &amp; %, Register by 9\/24.\u00a0 Educational and FREE<\/p>\n<p>*\u00a0 Octoberfest in Yaphank, Sun.
