Farmingville, NY \u2013 <\/strong>Hurricane Sandy is currently projected to hit the Town starting early Monday morning and is likely to cause damage throughout the Town, especially along the coastal areas. It is important for residents to be prepared for this weather event and I advise everyone to take the following precautions:<\/p>\n

– Secure and have available important documents
\n– Have a food and water supply for three to five days
\n– Make sure your cars are in your driveways to provide a clear path for emergency vehicles
\n– Secure and turn off propane tanks
\n– Charge cell phones, laptops and other electronic devices
\n– Secure outdoor furniture and other objects that could become projectiles
\n– Remove leaves and other debris from nearby storm drains
\n– Stay tuned to your local radio and television stations for news and weather updates<\/p>\n

You may also lose power during this storm, so make sure you have batteries in your home and battery operated radios and flashlights.<\/p>\n

Please go to the Town\u2019s website at www.brookhaven.org<\/a> for more information on hurricane preparedness, weather updates and emergency contact numbers. Residents can also call 451-TOWN to report down trees and power lines, as well as other emergency issues that may arise during the storm. Call 911 for police, fire and ambulance emergencies.<\/p>\n

If evacuation becomes necessary, Suffolk County and the Red Cross will open shelters across the County. For more information, you can call the Red Cross at 631-924-6911 or 1-800-733-2767. You can also visit\u00a0www.suffolkcountyny.gov<\/a> or www.redcross.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Town will also be sending out e-mail alerts to residents who have registered on our e-mail list. If you are not on the list, you can sign up today by clicking here<\/a>. Residents can also sign up for countywide Code Red alerts at\u00a0www.suffolkcountyny.gov.<\/a><\/p>\n
